A medical assistant is a health care provider who is tasked to aid medical professionals such as medical doctors and registered nurses.  The responsibilities that such an assistant would undertake often includes both administrative and clinical duties that are assigned to them by their superiors.  They can be found in private and public hospitals and clinics as well as other medical facilities that would require their services.  They are able to provide the kind of assistance necessary in order to assure that the care of patients is constantly provided and that the operations of the facility they work at continue flawlessly.

To be considered for such a position, one would have to finish the formal education required and provided at postsecondary educational institutions.  These would include vocational schools, junior colleges, online educational programs, community colleges, and so on.  The medical assisting program that is taken up in school must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or CAAHEP.  The program may also be accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or ABHES.  Accreditation of the medical assisting program from either of these two organizations is an important prerequisite for graduates of any postsecondary educational institution if the graduates intend to be certified or registered health care providers.

A medical assistant who is certified or registered has a greater chance of being hired by a medical facility and increases their chances of job advancement.  While professional certification or registration is not a must, it is definitely a process that is encouraged by groups such as the American Association of Medical Assistants or AAMA and others in order to assure that those applying for such a position are actually qualified and competent enough to be considered for the job.

To become certified, one would have to find out if they are eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) Certification Examination.  Once they are done with their accredited medical assisting program, including a practicum, they will have to apply to take the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination and pay the necessary fees.  If your application is approved and processed, you will then receive a permit that allows you to schedule your test date.  It is important to schedule your test date soon after you receive your permit in order for you to choose the date and location you prefer.  The best way to prepare for your upcoming CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination is simple: study.

Passing the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination will make you a certified and guarantees that you will be considered certified for sixty (60) months.  Once the 60 months are up, you will then be required to recertify and this can be done either of two ways: through continuing education or by taking a certification re-examination.  Of course, you can choose to become a registered medical assistant or an RMA.  This is done through the American Medical Technologists or AMT agency.  Either way, this opens more opportunities for you in your chosen profession.

Being in a specialized industry, EnergySolutions recognized that attracting top talent is very competitive. They felt a need to differentiate their employment offer from their competitors? offer. In March of last year, they implemented a tool which helps them showcase their benefits and better communicate the ?total rewards package? to prospective employees.

The Recruiting Advantage? (TRA) from Charlotte, NC based Employee Benefits Communications, gives current candidates the ability to model their multiple benefits options (medical, dental, life, disability, retirement, PTO, etc.) so that they can not only better understand their benefits, but can also do what-if analysis on their options. TRA is deployed as Software as a Service (SaaS) and gives the candidate access to a secure, customized web page. The candidate can ?drill down? into the benefits and available plans, see the employee costs, eligibility rules, and coverage for each of the plans as well as the participating doctors and hospitals so they can effectively measure and evaluate their options. After inputting their salary, bonus and benefit choices, the candidate will see a personalized ?Total Rewards Statement? which displays all of their direct and indirect benefits including the comprehensive value of the offer of employment in a graphical, easy to understand format. Candidates are now able to make a more informed decision and get a better understanding of the benefits plans the Company has to offer. This additional service plays an important role in attracting top talent to EnergySolutions.

?Recruiting engineers and other specialized talent has become very competitive. The Recruiting Advantage? has helped EnergySolutions to highlight our total rewards offers and secure our first candidate choice. I am confident that TRA played a major role in our percentage of accepted offers being at over 95%.?

-Eric S. Lundstrom, Director of Talent and Development

Quotes from candidates who have used the tool include:

“I utilized the Advantage Link in order to make sound judgments for employment with EnergySolutions. I did comparative analysis on a few different job offers and found the tool very useful in making those decisions. I found it to be very useful.”

?The Recruiting Advantage? is a revolutionary tool that has significantly enhanced our recruiting and onboarding process. To be able to offer the service of giving potential employees the ability to model their benefits to better assist them in making their employment decision is invaluable. I?d highly recommend The Recruiting Advantage? to any company that is looking to add a unique and powerful tool to their recruiting process.?

“This link is excellent and it provides crazy ?engineers? like myself the opportunity to do ?what if? drills!”

“The feedback at our HR conference in Charleston provided that ?wow factor? that I love so much”

This new tool also shows EnergySolutions? commitment to cutting edge technology and is helping new employees to assimilate into the organization more quickly. TRA gives EnergySolutions a true recruiting advantage.

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (PRWEB) April 11, 2012

The International Salon/Spa Business Network (ISBN) will present its Legend Award to Farouk Shami, at its 2012 Conference, ?Be Inspired,? April 15-17, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Shami is the founder and chairman of Farouk Systems, Inc., a multinational corporation that manufactures the BioSilk and CHI brands. Those lines are sold in more than 100 countries, which has given Farouk a unique perspective on global business and how to succeed in the 21st century.

?Farouk Shami is a hairdresser?s hairdresser,? says Paula Malloy Huerta, product development and marketing director for JCPenney Salons and ISBN past president. ?He has dedicated his career to helping stylists earn more money, while working in a safe and healthy environment. For example, in his Chi Enviro Smoothing System, he created a safe alternative to Brazilian/keratin treatments. Not only do our stylists breathe more easily, they make more money because their clients love the results. Farouk is a man of great character, who cares greatly for and about others and gives back to help others live better lives.?

Adds Patrick Neville, ISBN Board Member and chief merchant for BeautyFirst, ?Farouk is not only an industry icon, he?s recognized by the general public as an artist, visionary, entrepreneur, humanitarian, celebrity and political candidate, thanks to his appearances on ?The Apprentice? and his run for governor of Texas. After landing in the United States in 1965 with $ 71 and a dream, he worked hard and smart to create a billion dollar enterprise?he truly personifies the American dream.?

Shami?s story begins more than 45 years ago, when he came to the United States on a scholarship, intending to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in education. While studying, he began working part-time as a hairdresser and discovered his true calling when he became a salon owner. Being an entrepreneur and small business owner gave Shami an opportunity to create better, more efficient tools to perfect his craft. In 1986, he enjoyed a major breakthrough, the first of many, when he invented SunGlitz, the first ammonia-free hair lightener and coloring system. From that moment, Shami?s mission became environment, education and ethics, creating a company that is environmentally responsible, promoting education and adhering to the highest ethical standards. What followed was the invention of the CHI line of ceramic thermal tools, hairdryers with low EMF (electromagnetic fields) and a line of hair tools that features nano silver, which eliminates up to 650 forms of bacteria, making salons healthier for stylists and clients alike. He holds 10 patents for his inventions.

As a humanitarian who fervently believes that generosity is repaid many-fold, Shami has donated to numerous charities and organizations worldwide. In addition, after many tragedies, including September 11, 2011; Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike and the tornados in Joplin, MO, he donated millions of dollars of his own products to help salons get back in business and help their communities, and also donated care packages of personal hygiene products to help citizens recover. Shami and his business partner, John McCall, demonstrated their commitment to ending childhood diabetes by creating a research center at the City of Hope in California in memory of his father, Sheik Mohammed Shami. He also built a school in honor of his father to educate the young women of Palestine in the sciences. Most recently, he visited Haiti and brought medical and hygiene supplies to victims of the earthquake.

In 2009, Shami threw his hat in the primary for the governor of Texas. Although he did not win the election, Farouk made good on campaign promises and created jobs in Houston with the opening the new CHI USA manufacturing facilities.

In 2010, Shami partnered with Lone Star College to open the CHI School of Cosmetology, and the following year, the partnership sponsored a cosmetology student to assist with hair care experiments sent aboard the last Space Shuttle mission. Shami has sponsored the Latino Leadership Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School where he was a keynote speaker. A conduit for peace, he has also spoken by request in Washington, D.C. on Diplomacy through Business and strengthening American relations with the Arab and Islamic regions. He sits on the board of directors for the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., whose foundation bestowed him the American Patriot Award. The award recognizes exceptional Americans who have demonstrated a profound and abiding love of country and whose inspirational leadership and selfless dedication symbolizes our nation?s ideas, values and democratic principles.

A celebrity in his own right, Shami raised the profile of the salon industry when he appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice and tasked the contestants to produce a hair show. Last year, he was a judge for the televised Miss Universe Pageant in Brazil, which his company has sponsored for the past 12 years.

You still have time to register for ISBN?s 2012 conference and congratulate Shami in person. The conference also features a keynote by social media guru Peter Shankman (The new PR is spelled ?Customer Service;? economist Alan Beaulieu discussing how to ?Make Your Move? to maximize the future; panels covering the state of the industry and government relations; breakouts on online reputation management and ?A Window into the Consumer?s Mind;? a special ?2 to 10 Project? workshop; ISBN?s signature Speed Meetings with sponsors, the golf outing at nearby Trump National Golf Course and plenty of time for networking. Visit salonspanetwork.org and connect on the International SalonSpa Business Network?s Facebook page.

The International SalonSpa Business Network is comprised of more than 50 top companies, owning two to 12,000 salons and/or spas each, with combined gross sales of more than $ 10 billion annually.
